In 2022, Athens Church announced plans to launch a Beechwood Campus about 4 miles East of their existing main campus off Atlanta Hwy. The vision included two different efforts simultaneously. The first was roughly 22,000 SF of new construction which included a 2-story 1,000-seat auditorium with balcony seating. The second was a 46,000 SF renovation of existing vacant basement space that has become a family lobby, as well as kids and student environments. The project also included a cooperative redevelopment of the Beechwood Shopping Center to create pedestrian “pass thru” boulevards, providing connective walkways from the Athens Church entrance(s) to existing parking areas and adjacent restaurants/retail at Beechwood.

Construction of the pass-thru spaces required the demolition of existing tenant suites, and new facade design work (performed in cooperation with AI3, Studio BNA Architects, and Polias Development) to reimagine the pedestrian circulation experience at Beechwood. Additionally, Equip partnered with Kristin Butler Design on all interiors and design vision alignment throughout the space.
