In 2019, Kingdom Culture Church (formerly C/Life Church) purchased a building previously occupied by an RV dealership. The property consisted of two buildings connected by a large, open-air concourse that once served as the dealership’s showroom. The church hoped to convert these two buildings into their permanent home after 7 years of being a portable congregation. After engaging Equip Studio for masterplanning and evaluation, it was determined that the poor condition of the existing structures would likely create programmatic and financial challenges. It turned out that the church would save money by demolishing and re-building the rear building rather than trying to repair it. Soon, a brand new 550-seat worship center and adult education building stood in its place. Thankfully, the other building was in good shape and its construction lent itself well to the new children’s ministry space and admin offices.
One of the most unique elements of this design is the outdoor lobby space. During design, the decision to keep this space exposed allowed the church to reallocate the funds needed to condition this space back to the buildout of the 22k sf. interior space needed for ministry. Additionally, the open-air lobby sends a message of transparency and vibrancy to its community, both on Sundays and during the week.
