Shyla Hilken

Shyla joined our team at the start of 2024. The Colorado native holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Colorado. She went on to work for award-winning firms in Aspen, CO, practicing on a wide range of prestigious high-end residential projects. In 2021, Shyla moved to Knoxville, TN, to earn her Master of Architecture from the University of Tennessee. Here, she served as a teaching assistant and continued designing luxury residential in Aspen part-time.

Shyla’s professional experiences helped solidify her aspiration to work on projects that impact their inhabitants’ lives. She defines design as a temporal influence—a meditating paradigmatic habitual time capsule. She is a strong believer in the relationship between people, nature, and the environment. Through learning, understanding, and observing these relationships, Shyla strives to empower design by pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Layered by intention and creativity, her work is known for interrogating the program while maintaining a functional and luxurious aesthetic. Shyla blends design principles from post-modern architecture with the practicality of contemporary space planning.

After hours, Shyla enjoys yoga, running, hiking, snowboarding, and riding her cruiser bicycle (Betsy) as fast as she can.
